The contribution of velocity gradient to laminar convective heat transfer of a square duct with uniform wall heat flux. (English) Zbl 1186.80010

The contribution of the velocity gradient in laminar convective heat transfer through a square duct with an uniform wall heat flux has been discussed. The energy equation has been simplified by neglecting the viscous dissipation. The equation has been written in terms of heat flux and velocity gradients. The study includes both the cases of developing flow as well as developed flow. Standard numerical schemes have been used to study the different cases. Local distribution of the velocity gradient contribution in the transport of heat flux shows the boundary layer phenomena. It has been reported that the heat is transported by moving fluid away along the main flow. The transport of the heat flux in the direction of main flow is carried out by no-net diffusion and no-net convection.
