Ellis Horwood Series in Artificial Intelligence Foundations and Concepts. Chichester: Ellis Hoorwood; New York: Halsted Press. 178 p. $ 49.95 (1989).
The author describes and discusses the technical and social contexts of the application of computers and artificial intelligence. The book is divided onto six chapters titled: “What computers have to do”, “What computers seem to do”, “What computers can’t do”, “What some computers can’t do”, “A classical problem” (on paradoxes and contradictions), “Living with computers”. The book is completed by notes, a selected bibliography and an index. The book is written in an essayistic style without any formula except some elementary logic in Chapter 5. However, it contains a lot of ideas and comments about the possibilities and limits of modern information sciences.
