Beckett, Laurel; Diaconis, Persi Spectral analysis for discrete longitudinal data. (English) Zbl 0805.62085 Adv. Math. 103, No. 1, 107-128 (1994). The paper develops a Fourier type analysis for data consisting of many short strings \(X_ 1, X_ 2,\dots\), \(X_ n\) with \(X_ i= (X_{i_ 1},\dots, X_{i_ p})\). The approach to testing and residual analysis is based on a group theoretic decomposition of the sample space.
