A notion of non-commutative spacetime has been suggested by string theory. The spectrum of a particle confined to a non-commutative well was obtained in F. G. Scholtz, B. Chakraborty, J. Govaerts and S. Vaidya [J. Phys. A, Math. Theor. 40, No. 48, 14581–14592 (2007; Zbl 1126.81034)]. Based on this result, this paper yields thermodynamics for an ideal fermion gas in the non-commutative well. At low densities the thermodynamics is the same as for the commutative case. At high densities the behavior is quite different: There are extremal macroscopic states that correspond to a single microscopic state having a vanishing entropy.
