[For the reviews of the previous editions see Zbl 0731.73077, Zbl 1143.74300 and Zbl 1143.74301.]This book gives an elementary introduction to the finite element method (FEM), suitable for undergraduate engineering students. Most of the organisation and programming of the FEM is explained on truss elements, and 2D elements are introduced for plane stress. Based on this foundation, the authors also examine isoparametric plate and beam elements. The rest of the book discusses numerical problems, linear stability, axisymmetric problems, and gives a first flavour of nonlinear problems. Reviewer: Hermann G.
