Solving cubics with creases: the work of Beloch and Lill. (English) Zbl 1215.51011

In this very interesting paper, the author (whose book [T. C. Hull, Project origami. Activities for exploring mathematics. Wellesley, MA: A K Peters (2006; Zbl 1122.00010)] is highly recommended) presents relatively unknown (and little cited) work by the Italian mathematitian Margharita P. Beloch on solving cubic equations by paper folding.

In passing, he also presents an even less known method to “solve” cubic equations graphically due to Eduard Lill.
