It has been designed to be usable by complete beginners in an introductory programming course. It does not require a knowledge of any ‘advanced’ Ada concepts before it can be used, and it allows novices to develop GUI-based applications with a minimum of effort. This paper describes the features of JEWL, its design and the philosophy which underlies the design. JEWL is freeware, and can be downloaded from http://www.it.brighton.ac.uk/staff/je/jewl/.For the entire collection see [Zbl 0968.68556].
