Hungerford, Thomas W. Algebra. Reprint. (English) Zbl 0442.00002 Graduate Texts in Mathematics, Vol. 73. New York, Heidelberg, Berlin: Springer-Verlag. XXIII, 502 p. DM 45.00; $ 26.60 (1980). From the preface: The reception given to the first edition of “Algebra” (New York etc.: Holt, Rinehart and Winston) (1974; Zbl 0293.12001) indicates that is has filled a definite need: to provide a self-contained, one-volume, graduate level algebra text that is readable by the average graduate student and flexible enough to accomodate a wide variety of instructors and course contents. Since it has been so well received, an extensive revision at this time does not seem warranted. Therefore, no substantial changes have been made in the text for this revised printing. However, all known misprints and errors have been corrected and several proofs have been rewritten.
