Comput. Methods Appl. Mech. Eng. (to appear).

A self-adaptive finite element procedure is developed for the simulation of the miscible displacement of one fluid by another in a porous medium. The method permits different grids and time steps for pressure and concentration, time-dependent self-adaptively selected grids for concentration, logarithmic leading parts for the pressure in the neighborhoods of wells, and a leading part development for concentration around injection wells. Experimental testing of the method is reported at considerable length; theoretical analysis of the various procedures discussed are given elsewhere.
