(French) Zbl 0564.76119 J. Méc. Théor. Appl. 2, 977-989 (1983). A molten liquid column, placed in a magnetic field which is uniform at infinity, stretches itself along the field lines. The shape of the cross- section realizes the minimum of a functional in which the energy due to the surface tension and the magnetic energy appear. The variational method used is simple and involves the minimization of a convex function of several real variables. The results obtained are compared with some experimental results achieved with mercury.
