It is mathematically rigorous and provides a sound basis for understanding all the intricacies of optimal designs. It is an ideal book for a course on the theory of optimal designs or for a researcher willing to understand and contribute in this area. The seven chapters carry the following headings: I. Introductory remarks about the experiment and its design. II. The regression model and methods of estimation. III. The ordering of designs and the properties of variances of estimates. IV. Optimality criteria in the regression model. V. Iterative computation of optimum designs. VI. Design of experiments in particular cases. VII. The functional model and measurements of physical fields. As a final note, the contents of this book are meant for those having a mature background in mathematics and statistics.
