Matérn, Bertil Spatial variation. 2nd ed. (English) Zbl 0608.62122 Lecture Notes in Statistics, 36. Berlin etc.: Springer-Verlag. 151 p. DM 33.00 (1986). The book is a new edition of a report from the Forest Research Institute of Sweden first published in 1960. It was at the same time a doctoral thesis in mathematical statistics at Stockholm University. After a general introduction to stationary stochastic processes in \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\), a number of specific models of spatial variation are presented and finally various sampling problems in \({\mathbb{R}}\) and \({\mathbb{R}}^ 2\) are discussed. There are only minor changes compared to the first edition: misprints and errors are corrected, an author and a subject index are added, and a postscript on more recent developments of the subject is also added.
