Barut, A. O. Formulation of a nonperturbative quantumelectrodynamics as a nonlinear classical first quantized field theory. (English) Zbl 0702.53057 Differential geometric methods in theoretical physics, Proc. 15th Int. Conf., DGM, Clausthal/FRG 1986, 51-65 (1987). Summary: [For the entire collection see Zbl 0697.00025.] Characteristic radiative QED-effects like Lamb shift, spontaneous emission, anomalous magnetic moment, Casimir effect, are obtained within the framework of a nonperturbative first quantized classical field theory. New differential geometric and group theoretical investigations can now be made in this nonlinear formulation. A procedure to obtain a finite field theory, free from infrared and ultraviolet divergences, is outlined. Possible new effects in the short distance behavior of QED are pointed out.
