This volume is the first of a set of two volumes (see also the review Zbl 0836.00023 below) with selected papers presented at the 15th International Wittgenstein-Symposium 1992 at Kirchberg am Wechsel in Austria which was devoted to the philosophy of mathematics. The volume contains 36 papers which, unlike vol. 2, do not explicitly refer to Wittgenstein. They are grouped into eight sections: I “History of Mathematical Ideas” (4 papers); II “Workshop on M. Dummett’s Book ‘Frege: Philosophy of Mathematics’ ” (2 papers with introductory remarks and comments by Michael Dummett); III “Intuitionism and Constructive Mathematics” (3 papers); IV “Hilbert’s Program and Gödel’s Theorems” (6 papers); V “Logicism” (2 papers); VI “Mathematics, Modality and Knowability” (5 papers); VI “Some Philosophies of Mathematics” (6 papers); VIII “Some Further Topics” (5 papers). The volume is closed by the program of lectures presented at the symposium, a list of speakers, and an index of authors. The articles of this volume will be reviewed individually.Indexed articles:De Caro, Mario, Galileo’s Mathematical Platonism, 13-22 [Zbl 0849.00015]Spalt, Detlef D., Exactness as a constant, concepts in the change of mathematical reasoning.
