Mappings related to confluence. (English) Zbl 0902.54016

The author generalizes the definitions of some types of continuous maps, investigated usually in the theory of continua (namely confluent, weakly, semi- and pseudo-confluent, joining and monotone maps). For each of these concepts, he gives at least three definitions for mappings of general topological spaces. He proves that these concepts are equivalent to the classical one in case of mappings between continua but not generally: some counterexamples are given. These results extend some results of Engelking, Lelek, Tymchatin and Grispolakis. The paper is nicely and clearly written.
