He, Jihuan Derivation of generalized variational principles without using Lagrange multipliers. I: Applications to fluid mechanics. (English) Zbl 1005.76076 Facta Univ., Ser. Mech. Autom. Control Robot. 3, No. 11, 5-12 (2001). By using a semi-inverse method specially constructed for this purpose, the author establishes some new variational principles without using Lagrange multipliers, suitable for applications to fluid mechanics problems. The obtained variational principles cannot be obtained by traditional inverse methods (see for example, G.-L. Liu [Acta Mech. 140, No. 1-2, 73-89 (2000; Zbl 0959.76075)], where various old methods are systematically listed).
