Jones, Vaughan Mathematics of the third millennium. (Swedish. English summary) Zbl 1031.01014 Normat 48, No. 4, 145-152, 188 (2000). Summary: The author, who won the prestigious Fields medal in 1990, gives his personal view of the mathematics of the third millennium. First, the difficulties of predicting the significant trends of future mathematics are elucidated. Then, the author discusses four selected mathematical problems, viz. the P=NP problem, iteration of dynamical systems, Fermat’s last theorem, the classification of three-dimensional manifolds. There is also an interesting discussion about the teaching and learning of mathematics. Vaughan Jones addresses the frequently asked question: “Isn’t all mathematics already known”? MSC: 01A67 Future perspectives in mathematics PDFBibTeX XMLCite \textit{V.
