The authors present a unified way of defining the reachability and controllability Gramians for structured systems, in particular, weighted, second-order, closed loop and unstable systems. The key is to start with the frequency domain. This formulation in the frequency domain leads to a general derivation of a \(H_2\) norm error bound for model reduction based upon projection onto the dominant invariant subspace of the appropriate Gramian. For the entire collection see [Zbl 1066.65004].
