Genesis of the spontaneous localization approach to quantum measurement. (English) Zbl 1130.81015

Bassi, Angelo (ed.) et al., Quantum mechanics. Are there quantum jumps? Trieste, Italy, 5 September 2005 and on the present status of quantum mechanics, Lošinj, Croatia, 7–9 September 2005. Proceedings. In honor of Giancarlo Ghirardi 70th birthday. Melville, NY: American Institute of Physics (AIP) (ISBN 0-7354-0337-6/hbk). AIP Conference Proceedings 844, 294-308 (2006).
Summary: The motivations which led to the introduction of the spontaneous localization approach to the problem of quantum measurement are recalled. Then the main spontaneous localization processes which have been introduced are reviewed, laying stress on their relationships and on the various ways of going from one to another.
