Ewing, Richard E.; Yuan, Yirang; Li, Gang A time-discretization procedure for a mixed finite element approximation of contamination by incompressible nuclear waste in porous media. (English) Zbl 0673.76101 Mathematics for large scale computing, Lect. Notes Pure Appl. Math. 120, 127-145 (1989). Summary: [For the entire collection see Zbl 0673.00019.] Two efficient time-stepping procedures are introduced to treat the continuous-time method proposed by the authors which employs a mixed finite element method to approximate the pressure and the fluid velocity and a standard Galerkin method to approximate the transport of heat, brine and radionuclides for the system describing the contamination by nuclear waste in porous media. Optimal order asymptotic error estimates are derived under certain constraints between the discretization parameters.
