[For the entire collection see Zbl 0617.00018.] The paper is devoted to the activity of M. A. Lavrent’ev in the Academy of Sciences of Ukrainian SSR in the period 1939-1949. The authors present his scientific, pedagogical and public activity. Scientific interests of A. M. Lavrent’ev in that period were connected with the theory of functions of complex variables and its applications in mechanics of continuous bodies. He founded a school in this field which is active up today.
