Vertices of bounding curves with minimal self-intersections. (English) Zbl 1053.53500
Summary: A curve $$\gamma\:S^1\to S^2$$ which bounds an immersed surface of genus $$g$$ is shown to have at least $$4g+4$$ vertices provided that the number of self-intersections does not exceed $$2g+2$$.
