Vertices of bounding curves with minimal self-intersections. (English) Zbl 1053.53500
Summary: A curve \(\gamma\:S^1\to S^2\) which bounds an immersed surface of genus \(g\) is shown to have at least \(4g+4\) vertices provided that the number of self-intersections does not exceed \(2g+2\).
