Mass transfer by free and forced convection from single spherical liquid drops. (English) Zbl 1010.76084

Summary: For a conjugate problem, we discuss numerical simulations of mass transfer from droplet in a continuous phase. The effect of free and combined convection on mass transfer is investigated by solving the governing equations by finite element method. The results show that the mass transfer depends strongly on flow conditions. The effect of free convection on mass transfer at high Reynolds number is small. The mass transfer by the combined free and forced convection for a rising drop is found to be smaller than that for a falling drop. The simulation is limited to \(\operatorname {Re}_c\leq 20\).
