(English) Zbl 0843.65018 Philadelphia, PA: SIAM, Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. xix, 325 p. (1995). This second edition of the LAPACK user’s guide accompanies the release of version 2.0 of the LAPACK software. LAPACK represents a portable library of FORTRAN 77 routines covering a large class of problems in numerical algebra, which was designed as a successor of the popular packages LINPACK and EISPACK. It gives high efficiency on vector processors, “super-scalar” workstations, shared memory multiprocessors and can also be used on all types of scalar machines. The chapters of the first edition (1992; Zbl 0755.65028) are maintained. Version 2.0 extends the functionality of the already existing routines and introduces new ones, addressing topics such as: generalized nonsymmetric eigenproblem, generalized linear least squares problems, generalized singular value decomposition, generalized QR and RQ factorizations and reduction of a band matrix to bidiagonal form. The package is available on the World Wide Web and can be obtained through netlib or from NAG.
