Authors consider the complete dynamical model for a system in which the elastic motions of the airfoil are coupled with the motions of the surrounding unsteady flow of an inviscid, incompressible flow. Special attention is given to the derivation of the evolution equation for the circulation on the airfoil. The paper is concluded with a discussion of the relationship between assumptions needed in the model deviation and well-posedness of a class of functional differential equations which represents the coupling of the rigid-body dynamics of the airfoil with the aerodynamic model.
