Hobson, E. W. The theory of functions of a real variable and the theory of Fourier’s series. Vol. I, II. Unabridged and unaltered republication of the last revision (1926/27). (English) Zbl 0081.27702 New York: Dover Publications, Inc. xv, 736; x, 778 p. 2 Vols. (1958). Summary: This is a photographic reprint of the original edition of 1927 (Vol. 1) and 1926 (Vol. 2), reviewed in JFM 52.0237.02. The exposition is rigorous and heuristic, and many detailed examples [117 examples (Vol. 1) and 88 examples (Vol. 2)] are very useful. Not having regard to the important contributions made after 1927, the reviewer is not able to say that this work is adequate to a textbook of modern real analysis. It is surely a fundamental and standard reference work. Reviewer: G.
