This chapter overviews the computational aspects of partitioned analysis procedures applied to coupled-field dynamical problems. The coupled-field equations of motion are first presented in general and the case of a structure submerged in an acoustic medium is taken further to illustrate the different solution approaches. The specific time integration routines are then described and the important problems of stability and numerical accuracy of the implementations are commented upon.
Particular emphasis is given to fluid-structure interaction problems where the former is discretized using boundary elements and the latter using finite elements. The outlines are sufficiently thorough and the chapter may be considered as a concise presentation of the current state of the art in the subject.
