This last volume of the series “Methods for calculating shells” is devoted to the analysis of the interaction of rigid or elastic bodies with the surrounding medium such as fluid or gas.
The first three chapters summarize the fundamental equations of the fluid and gas mechanics, the theory of shells and plates and the integral transform methods. In the following seven chapters non-stationary waves acting on rigid solids, cylindrical and spherical shells, membranes, plates and panels are discussed and many numerical results are presented. The interaction shell-fluid is studied for many types of shells in the last two chapters.
The monograph collects the work done by the authors and their co-workers and gives an excellent survey of this area of mechanics. The book is supplied by a list of 577 references (352 written in Russian).
