Jet flows with gravity. (English) Zbl 0561.76022

In recent papers [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 81, 97-149 (1983; Zbl 0515.76017) and Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 35, 29-68 (1982; Zbl 0515.76018)] the authors have introduced a variational approach to the theory of jet flow from a nozzle and established the existence of jets (that is, of stream functions) with smooth detachment at the mouth of the nozzle; the theory was developed for 3-dimensional axially symmetric flows and for 2- dimensional asymmetric flows, without the presence of gravity. In the present paper we develop the theory for the case of jet flows in a gravity field.
