Fluid dynamics and heat transfer of a fluid enclosed between concentric and eccentric heated rotating cylinders. (English) Zbl 0578.76106
Summary: An investigation was carried out to determine the flow patterns and heat transfer characteristics of a fluid bounded by two horizontal isothermal concentric/eccentric cylinders. The inner cylinder is at a higher temperature and rotating. The parameters studied were for Rayleigh numbers to the order of $$10^ 5$$, a Prandtl number of 0.7, at different eccentricities and radius ratios with rotation of the inner cylinder. The results show that the mean Nusselt number increases with Rayleigh number for both fixed concentric and eccentric stationary inner cylinder. For a fixed Rayleigh number, when the inner cylinder is made to rotate, the mean Nusselt number decreases throughout the flow.
