Alimov, A. L. Piecewise Chebyshev approximation of experimental data. (Russian) Zbl 0624.65009 Zh. Vychisl. Mat. Mat. Fiz. 26, No. 12, 1763-1772 (1986). Given a-priori fixed error, the problem of experimental data approximation using a piecewise polynomial (in some Chebyshev system) with free conjugation nodes is investigated. The properties of the approximation with minimal number of nodes are studied. A computational scheme for such optimal approximation and results of testing two different algorithms are presented.
