Algorithms to solve the Euler and Navier Stokes equations lead to the solution of very large systems of nonlinear equations at each time step. For typical calculations, the cost of this solution is dominant and an increasing research effort is devoted to the development of efficient solvers. The goal of this paper is to describe, test and compare various solvers and to discuss the critical trade-off between the CPU and storage requirements.
