These are the proceedings of a conference devoted to Leibniz’s thesis that the real world is the best possible world. Most of the 22 short contributions to this volume are philosophical. The mathematical reader might be interested in the papers by E. Giusti (on Leibniz’s criticism of some of Euclid’s definitions) and B. Pinchard (sketch of a rapprochement between Leibniz and our contemporary René Thom).
