Large shearing motions of nonlinearly viscoelastic slabs. (English) Zbl 0860.73018

Summary: We study the shearing motion of a slab consisting of an incompressible nonlinearly viscoelastic material of differential type. We describe reasonable general constitutive restrictions that ensure that the strain is bounded during any motion lasting a finite length of time. We briefly sketch how this simple property, which is easily verified, ensures that the governing initial-boundary value problems have globally defined classical solutions.
