Modern applied statistics with S-Plus. 3rd ed.

*(English)*Zbl 0927.62002
Statistics and Computing (Cham). New York, NY: Springer. xii, 501 p. (1999).

The first edition of this book appeared in 1994, see the review Zbl 0806.62002, and a second in 1997, see the review Zbl 0876.62001. The S statistical system has continued to grow rapidly, and users have contributed an ever-growing wealth of software to implement the latest statistical methods in S. This book concentrates on using the current systems to do statistics.

This third edition is intended for users of S-PLUS 4.5, 5.0 or later, although S-PLUS 3.3/4 are also considered. The major change from the second edition is coverage of the current versions of S-PLUS. The material has been extensively rewritten using new examples and the latest computationally-intensive methods. A companion volume on S programming, which is in preparation, will provide an in-depth guide for those writing software in the S language.
