The maximum angle condition for mixed and nonconforming elements: Application to the Stokes equations. (English) Zbl 0948.65115
The authors obtain optimal order error estimates for the Raviart-Thomas mixed finite element method for elliptic second-order problems. Only the general maximum angle condition for two- or three-dimensional simplices is needed. Moreover, it is necessary. Important estimates of the same type are obtained for nonconforming piecewise linear approximations of the Stokes system.
