On the use of multiple quasi-static mode compensation sets for component mode synthesis of complex structures. (English) Zbl 0980.74025

Summary: We recently developed [W.-H. Shyu, Z.-D. Ma and G. M. Hulbert, ibid. 24, No. 4, 271-281 (1997; Zbl 0917.73039)] a new component mode synthesis method that combines the computational efficiency of the well-known constraint mode approach with dynamic compensation accuracy obtained by higher-order expansion methods. A tuning parameter designated as the centering frequency, controls the dynamic range of quasi-static mode. In this paper, we present criteria for selecting the centering frequency as well as for determining the number of sets of quasi-static modes that should be included in low-frequency and banded, mid-frequency response calculations.
