Summary: The classical boundary-layer analysis of Blasius and Pohlhausen for forced convection from a flat plate in the presence of a uniform external stream is extended to the case where a thin layer of a porous medium is attached to the plate. It is found that the effect of the porous layer is to increase the heat flux as represented by Nusselt number, and to within the approximations made this increase is independent of Darcy number. The deviation increases with Prandtl number, and also increases with a new parameter \(\xi\) defined by Eq.
