Nonlinear electroelasticity. (English) Zbl 1066.74024
Summary. Electro-sensitive elastomers are “smart materials” whose mechanical properties may be changed significantly by the application of an electric field. In this paper, we provide a theoretical basis for the characterization of nonlinear electroelastic properties of these materials. The theory is then applied to some simple prototype boundary value problems in order to illustrate the effect of electric field on the mechanical response.
