Math. E-Notes 5, 171-175 (2005). Summary: We prove a common fixed-point theorem in symmetric spaces for weakly compatible maps without appeal to continuity, which generalizes the result of T. L. Hicks and B. E. Rhoades [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl. 36, 331–344 (1999; Zbl 0947.54022)]. At the end, we give an application of our main Theorem to probabilistic spaces.
