Formal rigidity of the Witt and Virasoro algebra. (English) Zbl 1280.17020

Summary: The formal rigidity of the Witt and Virasoro algebras was first established by the author [ibid. 31, No. 6, 1340–1343 (1990; Zbl 0759.17012)]. The proof was based on some earlier results of the author and Goncharova, and was not presented there. In this paper, we give an elementary proof of these facts.{
