## Encyclopedia of distances. 3rd ed.(English)Zbl 1301.51001

Berlin: Springer (ISBN 978-3-662-44341-5/hbk; 978-3-662-44342-2/ebook). xx, 733 p. (2014).
This is the 3rd edition of the authors’ “Encyclopedia of distances”. According to the Preface, “new items from […] geometry, graph theory, probability theory, and analysis have been added.” Many topics are revised, esp. in Part IV ‘Distances in natural sciences’ and Part VI ‘Real-world distances’.
The book is not only a pure listing of distances in different areas but presents in great detail the underlying theory and the embedding of the notion into the application domain. The reader gains a lot from going into the details of the different domains.
For further information about the content of the book see the review for the 2nd edition [Zbl 1259.51001].
