Dynamics for a two-species competition-diffusion model with two free boundaries. (English) Zbl 1316.92066

The paper is concerned with a free boundary problem for a diffusive system modeling competition of two species in a one-dimensional habitat. Free boundaries describe (possibly intersecting) spreading fronts of two competing species. Starting with a global existence and uniqueness theorem, the authors proceed by analyzing the competitive dynamics and discuss how the speed with which competitors spread across the territory affects the persistence of the system. Unfortunately, no examples illustrating applications of the main results are provided.
