Primary breakup simulation of a liquid jet discharged by a low-pressure compound nozzle. (English) Zbl 1365.76080

Summary: The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the capability of a numerical approach to retrieve the involved primary breakup process in the case of a single triple disk compound injector. The present study is based on a coupling between internal flow simulations and DNS of primary breakup. The internal flow is described through RANS and LES simulations and comparisons with experimental data validate the calculation accuracy. DNS of the primary breakup is then presented (coupling level set, VOF, ghost fluid methods) and discussed by comparing the results (morphology, jet angle, perturbation wavelength) with experimental visualizations.
