Conductor and discriminant of Picard curves. (English) Zbl 1457.14061

Soit \(K\) un corps de caractéristique différente de \(3\). Une courbe de Picard \(Y\) sur un corps \(K\) est une courbe projective lisse de genre \(3\) sur \(K\) telle que l’extension de la base à une clôture algébrique \(\overline{K}\) de \(K\) admet un morphisme galoisien de degré \(3\) vers \(\mathbb{P}^{1}\). Une telle courbe est donnée de manière équivalente par l’équation \(y^{3} = f(x)\) avec \(f\) un polynôme monique séparable de degré \(4\) à coefficients dans \(\overline{K}\). Si une telle équation existe sur \(K\), on dit que \(Y\) est superelliptique d’exposant \(3\) sur \(K\).
Le premier résultat important de cet article montre, qu’à l’exception d’une courbe pour chaque \(K\), toutes les courbes de Picard possèdent une équation de la forme \(y^{3} = f(x)\) sur \(K\). Les exceptions, appelées courbes de Picard spéciales, sont toutes isomorphes sur \(\overline{K}\) et sont caractérisées par le fait que leur groupe d’isomorphisme est maximal. De plus, si la caractéristique de \(K\) est distincte de \(2\), alors ces courbes sont superelliptiques d’exposant \(4\) sur \(K\).
Par la suite les auteurs étudient le discriminant des courbes de Picard et les courbes spéciales définies sur \(\mathbb{Q}\).
Le discriminant \(\Delta(F)\) d’une forme ternaire quadratique \(F \in R[x,y,z]\) sur un anneau sans diviseur de zéro \(R\) dont le corps des fractions n’est pas de caractéristique \(2\) est \[\Delta (F) = \text{Res}(D_{x}F,D_{y}F,D_{z}F)/2^{14},\] où \(D_{T}F\) est la dérivation partielle et Res est le résultant de trois quartiques ternaires. Dans le cas où \(Y\) est une courbe de Picard définie sur un corps de valuation discrète \((K,v)\), on peut définir le discriminant minimal. Ce discriminant minimal est l’idéal \[(\Delta^{\text{min}}(Y)) = (\pi^{e_{v}(Y)}),\] où \(\pi\) est un paramètre local de \(K\) et \[e_{v}(Y) = \text{min}\{v(\Delta(F))\}\] où le minimum est pris sur les \(F\in\mathcal{O}_{K}[x,y,z]\) qui fournissent un model de \(Y\). Les auteurs montrent que pour toutes les courbes de Picard non spéciales il existe une équation de Weierstrass longue de discriminant minimal. L’existence d’une équation de Weierstrass courte de discriminant minimal est montrée dans le cas de caractéristique résiduelle différente de \(3\) pour les courbes non spéciales et de caractéristique résiduelle différente de \(2\) dans le cas spécial.
Le résultat principal sur les courbes de Picard spéciales définies sur \(\mathbb{Q}\) est que leur conducteur est supérieur ou égal à \(2^{6}3^{6}\). Il est à noter que cette valeur est atteinte pour une courbe de Picard spéciale. Un point clef de la preuve est la classification des \(800\) classes d’isomorphisme des courbes spéciales avec une bonne réduction en dehors de \(2\) et \(3\). Les auteurs conjecturent enfin que \(2^{6}3^{6}\) est la valeur minimal des conducteurs de toutes les courbes de Picard définies sur \(\mathbb{Q}\).
