Arnold, D. B.; Liapakis, S. T.; Reynolds, G. J.; Vezirgiannis, N. P. Practical considerations in transporting computer graphics metafiles. (English) Zbl 0793.68161 Comput.-Aided Des. 23, No. 4, 306-311 (1991). Summary: The Esprit ARGOSI project includes a work package on the development of a demonstrator that will use computer graphics metafile files to transport definitions of pictures across public data networks. The paper describes the development of a heterogeneous hardware and software environment to test the accuracy and efficiency of interworking with different implementations of CGM generators and interpreters. Experiments were conducted in which metafiles generated on a range of systems were exchanged. Suggestions are made for different accuracy-improving techniques to be applied to metafiles using the character encoding, and potential efficiency-improving compression opportunities are examined.
