zbMATH — the first resource for mathematics

Disquisitiones arithmeticae. (Translated by Arthur A. Clarke). (English) Zbl 0136.32301
New Haven and London: Yale University Press. xx, 472 p. (1966).
To criticize the mathematics of this book seems unnecessary, if not impious: one need therefore consider only the quality of the translation. To one who, like the reviewer, has little Latin, accuracy must be judged against other translations and style by intrinsic consistency: this translation passes both these tests and mathematicians of the English-speaking world should be deeply grateful to the translator.
Reviewer: H. J. Godwin
