Solution methods for linear sparse systems of equations are considered when the coefficient matrix is either symmetric in structure or is completely unsymmetric. Direct methods employing special pivoting strategies and some bared on frontal approaches are described. Iterative methods which include pre-conditioned Lanczos and conjugate gradients and techniques based on Chebyshev accelerations are discussed.
