Masur, E. F. Optimal structural design under multiple eigenvalue constraints. (English) Zbl 0544.73117 Int. J. Solids Struct. 20, 211-231 (1984). The paper treats effects of multiple eigenvalues in optimal structural design. Restating the single eigenvalue optimality problem, multiple eigenvalue problems are discussed. Specific necessary and sufficient conditions for double eigenvalues are given and geometrically interpreted. Numerical and analytical solutions are calculated for some examples in mechanics.
