The problem of torsion of an elastic rod having an arbitrary number of radial cracks, all reaching the surface, has been investigated. Defining a modified Prandtl function which satisfies certain requirements in addition to the condition that energy is finite, the calculation of torsional stiffness and the stress-intensity factor at the tip of the m- th crack has been carried out. It is shown that if the small cracks are sufficiently close to each other, there is a decrease in the intensity coefficient in comparison with the case of a single crack. The method presented in the paper may be applied to other problems of elasticity theory, for example, bending of rods, etc. Reviewer: V.K.Arya Cited in 1 Document MSC: 74R05 Brittle damage 74G70 Stress concentrations, singularities in solid mechanics 74K10 Rods (beams, columns, shafts, arches, rings, etc.) Keywords:torsion; elastic rod; arbitrary number of radial cracks; modified Prandtl function; torsional stiffness; stress-intensity factor PDFBibTeX XMLCite \textit{A.
